Krita is easily one of the best digital art programs. I keep it installed on majority of my computers even if the computers do not need it. By understanding and memorizing Krita hotkeys the speed of your artistic productivity can be increased.
Krita Manual
The Krita manual listed above is fantastic for learning how to configure your program to your desired settings. This is not a guide on how to increase your art skill but instead how to configure and use Krita to support your art skills. This manual will explain how to: Install Krita, Interface basics, Configure brushes, Layers, Selections, Transformations, Drawing Assistants (Such as Mirroring), Filters, Effects, Color Management, Vector tools and more!
Below is a simple list of single button Krita hotkeys. Some of them will toggle effects so be sure that you remember which ones toggle! For example the hotkey E will Toggle the Eraser and if Toggled on then choosing your brush will not toggle the Eraser off.
Tab: Toggle Canvas View
B: Brush
E: Toggle Eraser. Dont forget to toggle this off if you want to paint.
M: Flip Canvas horizontally
[ or ]: Change Brush Size (Down & Up Respectively)
D: Change brush color to black.
Delete: Deletes selected page(s) or deleted selected items on the page via the Lasso.
Page up: Move to page above current selected page.
Page down: Move to page below current selected page.
– and +: Zoom in and Out
1: Zoom canvas to 100%
2: Fit canvas to screen
3: Zoom canvas to 113.3%
4: Rotate canvas by 15% counter-clock-wise
5: Rotate canvas to 0% (Or Vertical)
6: Rotate canvas by 15% clock-wise
Below is a simple list of multi-button Krita hotkeys.
Ctrl + Left-Click: Eyedropper (Selects color already used on canvas depending on where u click)
Spacebar & Left Mouse Click: Grab and move Canvas
Ctrl + Shift + A: Un-select any selected items.
Ctrl + E: Merge current page with the page below it.
Ctrl + T: Enables selected items to be moved around on the canvas.
Ctrl + R: Changes to the “Rectangular Selection Tool” to allow selected art to be manipulated.
Common Hotkeys:
Common hotkeys are key combinations that are commonly used in other Operating Systems. Examples would be the windows operating system and also in other programs such as Microsoft Word.
Ctrl + Z: Undo
Keep in mind the number of Undo’s your computer can perform is set in the Krita settings.
Ctrl + S: Save
Saves the current Krita session in either the location the art file was opened. Or saves the art file to the last saved location.
Ctrl + C: Copy
Copy selected item to your clipboard allowing you to paste it in another location. You can copy/paste whole pages or only selected items on an individual page.
Ctrl + V: Paste
Paste whole pages or selected items.
Ctrl + X: Cut
Will erase selected page, or selected items, then paste to new location.
